The golfing eyes of Canterbury and in the wider sense New Zealand focus this week on Pegasus as the venue for the New Zealand Women's Open. I am aware that a number of Club members have offered assistance, others are playing in the ProAm (including "the Girlfriend" reporting at 6.45am) and some are just going as spectators so all the best to everyone and hopefully the spell of fine weather will continue at least until Sunday evening!!
Saturday sees the first round of matchplay for the Godby Trophy with 32 players involved from just after 12.00 midday. A score in qualifying of 73 on countback or better got you in so please check to confirm your tees times and participation - the draw is out and the onus is on you!! For those of us who are not quite so lucky or good Match of the Day is pairs stableford.
Please note in your calendars that the Club Champs are on the horizon with entry sheets out this week. The first round of qualifying is set for Saturday week 6 March with the second round on 13 March, for those that qualify matchplay will begin on 20 March. Please confirm your availability for the whole series before entering as late withdrawals are especially frustrating. Last year we had some difficulties with "pull outs" for the second round of qualifying please be considerate of your playing partners and advise them and the General Manager accordingly.
This week the Board has a special meeting to review membership matters and it promises to be full and wide ranging discussion. Watch for the reported outcomes via the Presidents column in due course.
In the interim make the most of the good weather and I will see you at Shirley if not before.
