Godby Qualifying............

Saturday was one of those rare days when the conditions favoured the afternoon players - long may it continue. The predicted southerly change arrived mid morning to wreck the rounds of those who teed off early and while still more than a stiff breeze in the afternoon it did not have the destructive force of the first gusts.

The qualifying score for the Godby matchplay was countback on Nett 73 or better so please watch the website and noticeboard for the first round draw due to be played on Saturday 27 February. The best round of the day went to Gerard Osborn with a fine 66 which was just good enough to win the Intermediates from Shaun Xiong on 67 and in countback order Tracy Tatom, Nick Sekeris, and Shane Gloury on 68.

Alan Jones showed that age is no barrier taking out the Juniors with a 67 from Stephen Boyd on 68 and Keith Hanham on 70. In the Seniors 71 was a popular score with another countback needed to separate Karl Kitchingham, Glenn Bongartz, Bruce Cooper & Peter McDougall who all finished on that number.

The two's pool registered $250 and there were 17 winners each getting $14.70 each. The jackpot grew to $175 and remained unstruck. Nearest the pin on 3 blew away so if you know who was closest or think it was you please speak with Struan to claim your $40. On 11 the winner was Paddy Helmore. Closest to the pin on 18 for 2 sponsored by Linden Leaves was Alan Day, on a difficult day 12 was drawn for nett eagles and surprisingly there were two winners, at opposite ends of the handicap index, Peter Sim and David Issac.

A big thank you to David Robinson who fulfilled the duties of Course Marshall and ensured we managed to complete a stroke round in good time - hopefully a sign of things to come!!
