Under Anthony Doyle's careful eye the Junior Golf section has boomed over the past few months and we now have a significant number of very promising young golfers as Junior members.
While we have entered three teams in the Canterbury Golf Junior competition unfortunately there were insufficient entries to run a gross section. The nature of matchplay golf with juniors means our low handicappers are prejudiced by the huge number of shots they have to concede. For example Henry Pearson shot a par 72 for a nett 66 and lost 7/6 having to give away 22 shots.
The first round was held at Hororata on Sunday where we finished with one win and two losses after a very early start. Congratulations to the team of Tom Pearson, Marcel Boet, Alex Sloane and Jimmy Philip who secured the win. I am told the turnout of the Christchurch teams in their red and black was immaculate and they all looked the part. This week they venture out to Rangiora for the second round and we wish them all the best.
Many thanks to Mark Harris, Bryan Pearson, & Andrew Sloane and all the other parents for their support and help I am confident we are in for a bumper season.
