Saturday 8 August sees the playing of the Watson Cup a Four Ball Par ( a pairs event with the best score on each hole on the basis of plus, minus or half). This is a competition of long standing and will require a score in the region of plus 8 or 9 to be competitive.
Inter Club Golf gets into full swing on Sunday 9 August with the opening round of Woodward Cup being played at Shirley meaning the course will be closed to members until later in the afternoon. Our team plays Clearwater, teeing off hole 4 at 11.00am. As always any support from around the course would be greatly appreciated by the players. We wish Brian Ronan and the team all the best for the competition.
Blank Cup also starts with a single round this time at Russley again we wish all the best to manager Rod O'Brien, assistant Allan Scott and the team as a whole. The Simon Team plays Rounds 2 & 3 at Coringa looking improve on this weeks showing (see report below).
I am able to record that the Blog has actually saved the Department significant expenditure this week. As I was penning the final few paragraphs, somewhat late in the morning, having meant to be on the road to the Coast significantly earlier we received notification of the settlement of tomorrows mediation. According the DoL has saved one nights accommodation and one days travel expenses and for once I am feeling quite virtuous as I should have been well on the way to what would have been a wasted day.
In any event tomorrow "sometime" I will head to Greymouth for 2 days and then to Westport for Friday prior to heading home and to the Shirley Clubhouse for sustenance both liquid, solid and spiritual in the evening. Hopefully the weather will have had time to improve in the interim.
In the interim good golfing and I will see you at Shirley if not before!
