The Week That Was.................

Readers will be pleased to know that in light of the plague of mediation cancellations I was able to make it to Shirley on Wednesday afternoon (I took A/L for any doubters amongst you!!)and then contribute to the Glenn Bongartz retirement fund in what was otherwise an absolutely sensational afternoon. Its encouraging to see the Wednesday boys in such great heart.

Saturday saw the final of one of the Club's prestigious matchplay events with the Godby Trophy on the line between Alan Scott and Brian Ronan. After what was a titanic struggle Scotty emerged as the eventual winner 1 up. I understand Scotty gained the lead at 13 and the last 5 holes were all halved so congratulations to Alan Scott and commiserations to Brian Ronan. For the rest of us the Competition was Stableford three grades in a field that contained a number of visitors and moved reasonably well through the afternoon.

In the Senior Grade showing off to his guests from Timaru, David Robinson won with 38 points from Liam Cumberpatch on 36 and Warren Jones (a late finisher) also on 36. In the Intermediates both Ian Matthews and Dennis Doherty recorded 38 points but they couldn't head off Bryan Tyro on 40 points - thanks to Bryan for coming back for the prize giving as it is always good to give out the envelope on the night so to speak. Yoshi Tamaki was successful in the Juniors with 40 points from one of our valued older members Stewart Betty on 38 from Stu Kemp on 35.

The two's pool stood at $265 and the 9 winners each took $29.40 with Shaun Xiong scooping the $185 jackpot with 2x2's. Nearest the pins were Rod O'Brien (moving from 11 from the past two weeks) on 3 and Bruce Todd on 11 - $45 each. The Linden Leaves sponsored prize for closest to the pin on 2 for 2 was won by a visitor Shaan Turner while Bruce Taylor collected the Benjarong Thai Cuisine voucher on 18. Nett eagles had a new pool of $100 and this was won by Ron Williams (not Trig) who made 2 on 11 which was the drawn hole - Please note in an editorial decision Ron (RP) Williams will now be known as Ron Williams and Ron (RF) Williams will be referred to as "Trig" in all future correspondence.
