This week is shaping up to be a "big one" for the Club with the Hot August Night in the final throes of preparation for Saturday. If you have not as yet paid for your ticket could now please do so urgently to enable the finalisation of numbers and seating. The Wine Tasting is set to become the social highlight of the golfing calendar to date and if you have not a ticket please see Amanda as there maybe room to squeeze you in (just).
On the golfing front it is all go as well. Saturday sees the people who stand on the right side of the ball have their day in the sun via the Sams Cup for lefthanders an event that is always keenly contested. Watch out for Jim Glass who seems to be running into a rich vein of form but Alan Scott could be the dark horse and never discount BG. For the rest of us the competition of the day is stableford 3 grades doubling as the next round for the Shootout. The qualifying score continues to increase so it may pay to get in an extra good round soon.
On Sunday the next Mixed Event is due to take place for the G E Rhodes Cup which is in the format of a Mixed Foursomes Flag Match played in sixes from the first tee commencing at 11.30. For the definition of a Flag Competition I refer you to page 15 of the the Club's Green Handbook which more clearly describes the game than I ever could. As usual there will be a meal in the Clubhouse afterwards. Unfortunately I will be with the Woodward team but I will be back for a drink, hopefully to eat, and with the news of two wins.
The Board has it monthly meeting on Wednesday and I will report on what I am able next week. I am based in town for the whole five days with a spread of mediation's and a planning day set down for Friday so I will be ready for a drink come 5.00pm. Just so it's in your diary be aware we make our annual trip to Clearwater on the 29 August which coincides with Shirley being closed for the Women's Canterbury Provincial Championships.
Until next time good golfing and I will see you at Shirley if not before.
