Well, what can I say, the weather on Saturday was one out of the box and provides a valid reason for never wanting to move away from Christchurch even during the Winter months. From the outstanding conditions two things flowed - once again we fell into the bad habit of slow play meaning that those at the back of the field finished in near darkness and secondly the individual stableford scoring was spectacular again moving the bar for the Shoot Out qualification.
Match of the Day was a Teams Multiplied Stableford and in my four the penalty for a 0 was a $5 fine, needless to say I had a very expensive afternoon!! In first place with 348 points was the team of Tony Park, Paddy Helmore, Richard Blunt & Rod O'Brien followed in second by the surprise package of Charles Whitwham, Andrew Hopkins, Peter Guthery and John Aitcheson. Third place on 296 settled by countback was Brendan Hicks, Ian Walker, Peter Law and Ben Frampton from the combination of Lawerence Wong, Clifford Chan, Raymond Liong and Peter Phelan.
The two's pool reached $200 and there were 12 winners each getting approximately $16.60. The jackpot increased to $210 and was won by Tony Park. Not surprisingly Rod O'Brien won closest to the pin on 11, $40 and Mike Ambrose was the winner on 3 for the same amount. In our sponsored holes the Linden Leaves prize on 2 was won by Jeff Gray and the Benjarong Thai Cuisine Prize for 18 went to Chris Barraclough. Nett Eagles was not struck with hole 14 being drawn out of the barrel therefore $85 carries forward.
With the fine conditions also prevalent on Sunday there was a strong field out on the course including the initial competition for our Junior members run by Anthony & John at the Pro Shop. This initiative will be a continuing practice over the next few months so see Ant or Callum for further information. In the Page Trophy Allan & Karyn Scott ended the run of Ian and Laura McDonald while Joe & Sue Mullins succumbed to the quiet achievers (if you can ever call Glenn quiet) Glenn Bongartz and Allison McMillan.
