The Canterbury Women's Provincial Matchplay Championships take centre stage at Shirley this week with a practice round on Thursday afternoon, two rounds of qualifying strokeplay on Friday (I will be caddying for Kate Shier) and then the matchplay rounds on Saturday and Sunday. All the best to the our members who are playing and to the organising committee - may the weather gods smile upon you.
For the rest of us, or at least some of us, there is the pilgrimage to Clearwater for the away round of the Shirwater Trophy. Unfortunately we have been hugely over subscribed by members wishing to participate so at this stage we are confirming the maximum numbers that are able to be accommodated and are arranging for tee times at other courses for the excess. If by chance you are not in the Clearwater match you will be contacted by the office with the available alternatives. For those playing the event also incorporates at meal afterwards at a total cost of $30= registration at Clearwater from 10.00am onwards.
On Monday Evening the Board will be meeting with both the Men's & Women's Committees in a forum lead by David Robinson to look at Membership Strategies and how we may advance the interests of the Club. The proposed Agenda raises substantial issues of interest so hopefully we will have a thought provoking gathering.
I make the journey to the Club again on Tuesday for a meeting of the Social Committee as we review the Wine Tasting Evening and look ahead to other possible functions. Any suggestions before then would be greatly appreciated. Normally I would make an effort to have a wine on Wednesday but I suspect that Amanda may be sick of me by then so that remains up in the air as yet!
On a personal note I remain in Christchurch all week but the calendar has already been hit by a cancellation so one never knows. Last week I got to make an unscheduled trip to Ashburton - how lucky can you get!!
In the interim good golfing and I will see you at Shirley if not before.
