What's Happening Week of 17 August.........

Well I have well and truly exceeded all blog records for content this issue so apologies if it takes more than a quick read, matters that I normally would have covered but have not this time will appear next week.

Match of the Day next Saturday is Stableford 3 Grades doubling as Round 12 in the Shootout competition. Again after last week the bar is on the move so get in as many good rounds as you can in the hope that some may count in due course. It looks as though this will be the highest qualifying score in an number of years.

Note in your dairies that the course will be closed for the Canterbury Women's Provincial Championships from 12.30 on Thursday 27 August until Sunday 30 August. As usual we have arranged to make our annual pilgrimage to Clearwater for the next contesting of the Shirwater Trophy. Currently we are in discussion with Clearwater as to the scoring system and more will be disclosed when we have reached agreement. This competition is normally followed by a meal at Clearwater and further details will be provided through the Club and Pro Shop.

The next Mixed Match should also now be put into your calendar being the Islington Cup on Sunday 13 September. This is a Teams Best Ball Stroke Net so get your teams organised in advance. Do not forget that in addition to the matches in the Green Book we have the rescheduled Fathers/Sons & Mothers/Daughters Match set down for Sunday 6 September. This event is normally followed by a Fish & Chip meal at very reasonable cost.

Following on from the Board meeting last week the Men's Committee is meeting on Wednesday and I will provide an update in regards to matters of any moment next time. This week sees me in town for the whole week with a diary that has become remarkably free due to last minute cancellations and non confirmations but I am sure I will find something with which to wile away the hours.

In the interim good golfing and I will see you at Shirley if not before (possibly on Wednesday if I can get a day off).
