With no Metro this week I took the opportunity of doing a bit of a Tiki Tour around Christchurch on Sunday to catch up on the other Club Teams. See the separate reports for the Juniors , President's and Inter Club Challenge. Otherwise the week opened with the pre-qualifying for the PGA on Tuesday with 4 positions up for grabs. Ant played well but finished 1 under par on a day when the putter failed to perform and 68 was the cut off.
The Clearwater Women visited on Wednesday as their course was closed for the Pro-am, Amanda reports they ate the cupboards bare of food!! Just remember the Clubhouse now has a wide range of food to cover all tastes so take advantage of the situation - cakes pies sandwiches and not to forget the Roast Vegetable Frittata.
On Saturday I was morning starter for the Club Champs, the first group hit off in near darkness at 7.00am and the field was reasonable full until the Ladies and 8.30 and then only slightly tapered off into the afternoon. Match of the Day was Stroke Nett 3 grades. Brendan Hicks lead home the Seniors with a 68 from Ian MacDonald 70 on countback from Soshi Hirai. In the Intermediates Raymond Liong had 67 from Neill Bradley on 68 and Dennis Doherty & Tony McKeogh on 69. The Juniors was won by Clifford Chan on countback 70 from Chris Abbott and a new member Dermott Martin was third on countback of 71 from Stu Kemp and Jin Ho Neoh.
If you were lucky enough to get a two there were 16 winners each receiving $12.50 while Takahiro Koyama struck the jackpot of 2x2 of $239. Net Eagles were not struck and $117 carrys forward. Nearest the pin for 2 on 2 sponsored by Linden Leaves was Joe Tiller while nearest the pin on 18 sponsored by Benjarong Thai Cuisine was Stewart Sinclair. Nearest the pins $50 each was won by Brian Nixey (Hole in One) on 3 and at 11 Peter McDougall.
Results for the first round of the Club Champs can be found on the http://www.golf.co.nz/ site by entering your ID number then clicking on the Competitions Heading and then selecting Club Champs and then entering the appropriate grade information.
Monday saw the New Zealand Open Pre-qualifying where 104 golfers were competing for 4 places. Good luck to Ant and our other Club members who are in the field.
