The focus of the Club now moves to The Christchurch Casino Golf Masters which takes place over the Easter weekend. This is a major event for the Club and once again provides the opportunity to showcase Shirley Links to the wider community while providing support for the Canterbury Branch of Cystic Fibrosis, Kids Can Stand Tall Charity and Canterbury Medical Research Foundation. The course will be closed on Sunday and Monday while the tournament takes place but both the pro shop and the caterers are gearing up for a big weekend.
On Saturday the promoters run a Members day which offers everyone the opportunity to participate. There are shot gun starts in the morning and afternoon. An entry fee of $20.00 applies to the afternoon field but is optional in the morning - however if you do not enter you will not be eligible for one of the best prize tables of the year. Not only is this a worthwhile tournament to support because of the charity component but it also extremely well run so book in as soon as possible - it's open for Men and Women!! A full report will follow next week.
The Board has its normal monthly meeting on Tuesday with an agenda that looks reasonably full! Around the course Mark Lawson has arranged for our arborist John Royal to visit to trim some trees - on the 18th (roadside), the 9th tee and over hanging the 8th fairway (which I am sure will be a relief to most of us as we hug the right hand side). The greens spiking has gone well and Mark has rolled the greens meaning they are running better than expected and should heal at a faster rate - they will be sanded the week after Easter.
With the Easter break the next version of Simon Says will not appear until Tuesday 14 April(sometime) all things being equal and dependant on workload. In the interim good golfing and I will see you at Shirley if not before.........
