For those that did not venture beyond the city bounds Saturday saw a Stableford Three Grade Competition. On what was a splendid afternoon there was a surprisingly full field.
The results subject to final confirmation from Struan were in the following form: Seniors Rod Hayes on 39 points from Bruce Taylor on 38, Intermediates - Bentley Seeto on 39 from moi on 37 from Philip Hong by countback with David Page on 36. Putting last Sunday behind David Isaac had 40 (good enough for him & Marcus to take $16 from Keith Love and me) from Jeff Suddens on 34.
Ian Mac Donald was extremely lucky in that he scored the only 2 worth $130, the jackpot was not struck and $45 carries forward (I understand Rod Hayes had 2 two's but had not put his money in!). Nearest the pins were Ian MacDonald on 3 and Phil Loughlan at 11 - $45 each. Nearest the pin for 2 on 2 sponsored by Linden Leaves was Philip Burdon while Charles Whitwham won the Benjorong Thai Cuisine prize for closest to the pin for 2 on 18 (Charles was involved in a Top Dog Match and shot an even par 72). Net Eagles with a pool of 65 was not struck with the 7th being drawn.
As indicated these figures are provisional only and are subject to final confirmation and sign off. For the avoidance of doubt those that win Saturday competitions are eligible for Casino Food & Beveridge Vouchers to be collected from the Office if you are not present for the announcements on Saturday. The "cash" prizes are credited to your Proshop account.
Sunday saw President's play their final round at Clearwater against Everglades. In the absence of both Dennis Doherty and stand-in Paul Needs the team was lead by David Young. After a titanic struggle where 7 games went down the 18th Christchurch unfortunately finished on the wrong side of the ledger 41/2 to 31/2. David Isaac won the prize for most valuable player a bottle of gin which he promises to share (Yeah Right!!). This was perhaps not one of the sides more successful years but they will do better next season and as the saying goes "a good time was had by all".
The season continues for our Women's Pollock Cup team as they are now through to the semi final round. When I have more information I will let you know the details of how we can support the Ladies and see if we can get the Cup back to Shirley!
