The Junior competition moved to Christchurch for the Sunday round. In the absence of Mark Harris we extend our thanks to Grant Topp and Phillippa Tulisi who stepped in to manage the teams.
Our Senior team drew Russley who arrived with an extremely strong combination with a 3 & three 4 handicappers. At one Liam Cumberpatch was again successful 3/2 continuing his good form. Unfortunately his team mates could not quite match his efforts, from a significantly higher handicap Simon Watson fought hard all the way and was perhaps unlucky to lose 1 down while both Andrew Topp and Ciaran Selwyn played well but in the circumstances could not overcome the handicap differences.
Our Junior team fared significantly better not withstanding in the handicap section they were giving away a number of shots to the Kaiapoi team. James Harris had to give his opponent 19 shots but eventually emerged a winner after a closely contested match. Rosie Tulisi showed her opposition no mercy being a 6/5 winner after playing very consistent golf. Alex Sloane (without caddy & support person Andrew) played very staunch golf coming from behind several times to finally register a half. At number 1 Henry Pearson shot an 80 (2 under his handicap) but having to give 12 shots led to a 3/2 loss notwithstanding his good play.
I have to say I am impressed by the fearlessness that the Juniors approach their golf - they simply stand up and smack it - I wish I could do the same.
