If ever you wish to create controversy all you need do is mention slow play and the dress code. As far as I can ascertain no one ever thinks they are a slow player and we are all always dressed immaculately but every one has an opinion on who is and who isn't.
Well people a five hour round of golf is simply unacceptable (and so is a 4 hour thirty) as we move into Winter and the light fades I ask each member to take responsibility for their own actions as we seek to improve the speed of play. As the temperatures continue to fall I am hopeful that there will be a corresponding rise in the standard of attire!
Congratulations to Liam Cumberpatch who turned 18 on Saturday. Liam is one of our promising Junior Golfers and is in his first year of University at Canterbury studying engineering. We wish him every success academically and sporting wise for the rest of the year.
We also welcome Doug McSweeney to the club as a new member. Doug is the CEO of Canterbury Golf and an acquaintance of Glenn Bongartz - neither of these things should be held against him!! I will be playing with Doug, David Page and Struan on the 9 May so he will be formally introduced to members at that time.
Marty Holman departs our shores on Friday to return to his native Canada for another Summer. We wish him a safe trip and look forward to his return later in the year. We have the pleasure of Patrice's company for a wee while longer as she does not head off until the end of May.
On Saturday I was a "little" worse for wear and arrived at the Club slightly peckish while under some pressure to move straight to the tee. I grabbed a Breakfast Muffin from the heated food cabinet which consisted of bacon & egg and other good stuff. It certainly filled the spot and I would recommend this as a pre-game snack. Amanda says they sell well and are available not only on Saturdays but also on Wednesday.
