Andrew Vincent is proving to be a very competent golfer, now on a handicap of 8, and threatening to challenge Mitchell for the title of best golfer in the household. On Wednesday Andrew holed out for two on 9 which was considerably better than trying to put his name on the Ladies closest to the pin on 3.
Paul Needs continues to be a worry such that his new nickname is "special". On Saturday night he was adamant he was caddying for Mitchell Vincent in the Town -v- Country match at Waimairi; clear instructions were given that he was to be present for tee-off at 8.00am for the first round. Andrew dropped Mitchell off on Sunday then rang Paul to ensure he was ready for action at which stage Paul indicated that his car was at the golf club and could Andrew come and pick him up. Andrew arrived to find Paul still in bed however after a short delay he was dropped off in the club car park just after 7.30am.
It was somewhat surprising that Mitchell then rang at 10.40 having won 6/5 to ask had anyone heard anything about his caddy who had not arrived. Mitchell hit off for the second round at 12.00 and was at the 4th hole before his errant caddy found him at 12.40. The real question, yet to be answered, is what was Paul Needs doing on a Sunday morning between 7.45 & 12.40 (nearly 5 unaccounted for hours!!)?? Possibly the best explanation was he was at Rawhiti wondering where everyone else was!
With Saturday's game being foursomes and Sunday's being ambrose players quite often found themselves outside their normal comfort zone none more so than President and former Club Champion Bruce Taylor who explored the hitherto unknown depths of the trees on 18. Having no previous knowledge on which to call Bruce hit 5 iron, rather well, onto the clubhouse roof much to his chagrin and to the hilarity of those watching from the safety of the Dobson Gallery. For the record the ball rebounded off the tiles in bounds but finished in a bunker and the four wisely chose another shot.
