Centennial Jug.......

The mixed match on Sunday saw the participants line up for a Teams Ambrose Event with each member required to contribute at least 4 drives. Leading off at the front of the field, as is their current wont, was the Osborn/Scott combination who scorched around the track in 3 hours 10 minutes. A subsequent inquiry established that the Karyn & Janet played relatively few shots apart from their drives and were mostly focused on keeping up with Grant and Scotty. Given we hit off at 11.30, they were back before 2.45, and prize giving wasn't until 5.00 there was ample opportunity to have the fire roaring and partake in liquid refreshments prior to the arrival of the other teams.

The Mixed competition is always keenly contested and a high standard of golf is normally achieved. By way of example the highest scoring team recorded 60.2 (which is nearly 12 under par off the white tees) while the winning score was 55.33. The team of which I was a member recorded 4 birdies and 14 pars with a handicap of 10.17 to finish with 57.83 and in 5th place in the middle of the field!! So do not be thinking that this Sunday golf is just a bit of a hit and giggle it's far more serious than that.

The winners on the day with 55.33 were Chris & Helen Richmond together with Paddy & Jane Helmore from on 55.82 Joe & Sue Mullins and Graham & Jill Pankhurst from Struan & Terry Cain and Tony Park & Jae Hae Lee in third. The Osborn Scott team somehow managed 4th notwithstanding they finished on the same score as my team - further questions are being asked.

Dinner was a buffet served in and around the Dobson Gallery and beside the fire for those brave enough to venture within its well stoked orbit. Along with a host of roasted vegetables came Roast Beef, Roast Pork and Hot Ham just the fare needed to warm the heart after a long walk in the cold air. Dessert followed with individual pavlova's & steamed puddings however it did appear as though Liam forgot to put out the extra bowl of cream and trying to sneak it out at the end was slightly obvious!

The next mixed match is on Sunday 16 August G E Rhodes Cup a Foursomes Flag Match another interesting format and lots of fun as you draw to the conclusion of your round.
