The Week That Was............

Saturday saw the continuation of the Indian summer and once again the transition to long pants was postponed for another week. The benign climes boded well for scoring in The Otago Salver a teams event Best Ball Stroke Nett. I had initially thought my teams score of 59 would be competitive but alas we were amongst the also rans!!

The first 4 teams all finished on a nett 57 and countbacks were required to determine the final positioning. Emerging from the arithmetical conundrum were the team of Ken Fergus, Matthew Glubb, Guy Hargreaves & David Moore, from Peter Law, John Carthy, Stephen Hicks & Andrew Hopkins. Relegated to third were David Robinson, Martin Toon, James Wells, & Graeme Thompson with Peter Hollister, Don Rae, Garry Urlwin and Peter Wardell back in fourth.

This competition format seems to be universally popular and the result is always fiercely contested - it must be the lure of finishing in the fifties and the fact it keeps everyone involved!! The two's pool accumulated $250 for the 12 winners each getting $20.85, the jackpot was not struck and $35 carries forward. Closest to the pin on 3 was a newer member Andrew Caldwell while a longer serving member Bryan Graham was closest on 11 both receiving $45. Nearest the pin on 18 for 2 sponsored by Linden Leaves was Aidan Millar. Nett Eagles was not struck after hole 1 was drawn so next weeks pot starts with $30 in the kitty.
